PROJECT TIMELINE:

The preparation of the WOASP involved a wide range of technical work, stakeholder engagement, plan development and municipal review and approval processes.  A summary of key milestones and timing is outlined below:

PROJECT UPDATES:

  • West Okotoks ASP receives approval from Town Council

    The West Okotoks ASP project team is pleased to announce that the plan received approval from Town Council on April 28, 2020.  The final version of the ASP can be found here.

    Development of the West Okotoks ASP has been underway since 2016 and will contribute to the sustainable, long term growth and development of the Town.  The West Okotoks ASP project team has engaged and collaborated with a variety of stakeholders throughout the development of the plan. We appreciate the time and feedback provided throughout the process.

  • West Okotoks ASP receives approval from Calgary Metropolitan Region Board

    The West Okotoks ASP has received approval from the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board following administrative and board review.  The West Okotoks ASP will now proceed to Town Council on April 27, 2020 for consideration of final approval.

  • West Okotoks Area Structure Plan moves to Calgary Metropolitan Region Board review process

    Following Municipal Planning Consideration, the West Okotoks ASP received first and second reading with the Town of Okotoks Council and moved through the public hearing process on January 27, 2020.  Council meeting minutes can be reviewed here.

    The West Okotoks ASP will proceed to the CMRB for review and evaluation through their Interim Regional Evaluation Framework.  More details about applications currently under review can be found here.

  • Town of Okotoks Municipal Planning Commission Date Confirmed

    The West Okotoks Area Structure Plan will proceed to the Town of Okotoks Municipal Planning Commission on December 19, 2019.  The first reading of the document at Council will be on January 13, 2020.  Following first reading, the public hearing date will be set likely for end of January or early February.  Details will continue to be shared through our website.

  • Resubmission of Draft West Okotoks Area Structure Plan (October 17, 2019)

    The West Okotoks ASP project team has submitted a revised draft of the plan to The Town of Okotoks for their review before commencing the official municipal approval process.  The plan will be circulated to Foothills County and Alberta Transportation for final comments.  We will continue to share details about the approval process, including dates, as they become available.

  • You are Invited: Public Open House

    A revised draft West Okotoks Area Structure Plan (WOASP) was submitted to the Town of Okotoks in February 2019. The submission incorporated feedback received from the Town, external circulation and the June 2018 resident information session. Since the submission, the Town has reviewed the document and an updated version of the WOASP has been prepared by the project team.

    A public open house will be held on Wednesday June 19, 2019 to share details and gather feedback on the draft WOASP.

  • The West Okotoks ASP enters 30-day External Circulation process (July 2, 2018)

    Please click here to access the latest version of the WOASP that has entered into the external circulation process.  During this process, we will receive additional feedback from key stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and the Town. Comments received through the external circulation process will be reviewed in conjunction with Town feedback and feedback received at the Residents’ Meeting to inform plan revisions. The external circulation process is set to close at the end of July 2018.

  • The WOASP Information Session Draws Over 150 Adjacent Residents (June 28th 2018)

    On June 28th, 2018, the WOASP team held a 3-hour information session for residents within an 800-metre proximity radius to the plan area. The event was intended to be an opportunity to share additional information about the WOASP, answer questions, and collect feedback from residents. A 30-minute presentation was held to introduce the project, the team, and provide additional background information about the plan’s history and purpose. The feedback received from this event is currently being summarized and responded to through a “What We Heard Report”.

  • The West Okotoks ASP is resubmitted to the Town of Okotoks (May 25, 2018)

    After extensive review and engagement with Town Administration and key stakeholders, the West Okotoks ASP has been revised and resubmitted to the Town on May 25, 2018. The next step is for the Town to place the ASP into external circulation for review by other regulatory bodies, school divisions, and utility companies. Once the ASP is placed in external circulation, the public engagement process will be initiated.

  • West Okotoks ASP Submission to the Town of Okotoks (August 24, 2017)

    The West Okotoks ASP team is pleased to announce that on August 24, 2017, they have provided an application submission of the West Okotoks Area Structure Plan and associated baseline and technical studies to the Town of Okotoks.  The Town of Okotoks is now completing an internal review which involves circulating the application to applicable departments for review and comment. Following the internal circulation process, the Town will provide feedback and comments to the West Okotoks ASP team which will inform amendments to the plan.

  • Province Approves Okotoks Annexation (June 26, 2017)

    The West Okotoks ASP team is pleased to share that on June 14th 2017, the Government of Alberta approved the annexation of approximately 1,950 hectares (4,900 acres) of land to the north, west, south and southeast of Okotoks’ current town limits. Included within these newly annexed lands is the West Okotoks ASP area. The annexation will become effective July 1st 2017.

  • West Okotoks ASP website launched (May 26, 2017)

    The WOASP project team is pleased to announce the launch of the WOASP project website, your one stop shop for all news and matters relating the preparation and approval of the WOASP. Please stay tuned for future updates and information relating to this project.

  • Town of Okotoks Initiates WOASP (April 4, 2017)

    The Town to Okotoks sent a letter to plan area landowners, key stakeholders and adjacent residents. The letter provided advanced notice of the preparation of the developer funded WOASP, the role and purpose of the ASP, and its relationship to the annexation matters under consideration by the Government of Alberta.

  • Notice of Public Hearing, Town of Okotoks Proposed Annexation (September 8, 2016)

    Municipal Government Board notice of public hearing with respect to the proposed annexation of the WOASP plan area and other lands from the MD of Foothills to the Town of Okotoks. The public hearing was held and a decision from the Government of Alberta on the proposed annexation is pending.

  • Town of Okotoks and MD of Foothills Reach Annexation Agreement (April 12, 2016)

    A joint news release issued by the Town of Okotoks and MD of Foothills outlining that all parties have reached annexation agreement in principle. Included within the agreed to annexation area, the WOASP plan area forms a significant portion of the southwest growth sector.
